Itinerary

When you arrive in Sri Lanka, you will be able to find one of our representatives from Next Travel Sri Lanka at the Arriving Lounge of the Colombo Airport paging your name. By chance, if you are accommodating at a hotel around Colombo, or Negombo, we can pick you up from your hotel prior to the journey as well. Our plan for the day would be to reach Kurunegala, which was also a royal kingdom in the past. However, this ride would take a few hours, yet what you observe around is sure to enhance the delight of this ride. In fact, this route is incredibly scenic amidst the lush greenery of the paddy fields and ranges of coconut plantations. Besides, you will find so many roadside stalls and the best part of it is the fresh king coconut water. So, make sure you try them! However, this day is a sort of free day where there are no specific scheduled activities. So you can arrive in Sri Lanka at any time you prefer and after reaching Kurunegala, you can have a pleasant walk around the Kurunegala lake witnessing the beauty of the sunset and feeling the breeze of the evening wind. The overnight stay would be in a hotel in Kurunegala.
The second day starts with a delicious breakfast with a hot cup of unique Sri Lankan tea or coffee. Then you will pass the stunning Sri Lankan countryside to reach the central point of the cultural triangle in the country, Dambulla. On the way to Dambulla city, you will be visiting the largest ironwood forest and pink quartz mountain in Asia, Jathika Namal Uyana. Then, you will arrive at the cultural village to explore the fascinating countryside closer (Please note that admission fees are included here). The village tour starts with a Bullock Cart ride, moves to a canoeing boat ride across the lake, and ends with a tuk-tuk ride. Thus, this tour provides you with exposure to different transportation modes; old and modern, and experience of the typical Sri Lankan countryside hospitality. The evening plan of this day features a visit to the famous Sigiriya Rock Fortress which is a Unesco World Heritage Site. Here, you will get the opportunity to witness the vintage architectural systems in Sri Lanka through the palace on the top of the rock and the colorful frescoes lying beside it. Ending the day by capturing the beautiful sunset, you will reach a nature-friendly resort at Sigiriya/Dambulla for an overnight stay.
The third day of this tour calls for so much energy and scenery! Trekking up to one of the best scenic Rockhill, Pidurangala Forest  Monastery, early in the morning you will experience the challenging hiking tradition on the island. Neither clear path nor navigation is there to guide you, but steep paths and uneven steps with expanses of boulders and crevices to reach the summit. The harder the journey, the more unforgettable the memories are! So, never think twice to experience this hike. However, the scenery and the beauty you perceive at the top make you forget all the hardships you experience to reach the top. Besides, this is one of the best photographic spots on the island with its view of Sigiriya Rock in front. Following this experience, you will then be visiting Polonnaruwa ancient city which is one of the most ancient kingdoms in Sri Lankan history. The best part of this Polonnaruwa exploration is that this whole tour is covered with cycling which ultimately becomes a wonderful experience. Following this cycling tour, you will be heading back to the hotel where you stayed the previous night and if interested you can have a typical ayurvedic massage at the hotel.
You begin the fourth day of this tour with the aim of heading towards Kandy. As you might already know, Kandy is a plateau area surrounded by mountains covered with tea plantations and biodiversity rainforests. Thus, you will feel this change as you reach the city, and the wind and atmosphere out there are sure to relax your soul since the city is centered with a lake. En route to Kandy, you will visit the largest and the best-preserved cave temple complex, the Dambulla Royal Cave temple. There you will witness the beauty of 5 caves with the most unique and historical drawings. After having some productive time learning about historical arts and sculptures, you will be visiting Matale spice garden(Please note that admission fees are included here). This is one of the best places to have an overall idea about Sri Lankan spices and herbs. After that, according to the day plan, you will be visiting one of the frontline Buddhist religious monuments, the Temple of Tooth Relic. The evening is allocated for a city walk including a visit to Kandy City Centre, which is ideal at that time of the day to see Kandy in its true beauty. The last activity of the day is to attend a cultural dance show inspired by Sri Lankan arts, traditional dance, and cultural heritage (Please note that admission fees are included here). Covering all the possible activities at Kandy, overnight stay will be at a cozy mountain view hotel towards the top of the city which gives the best view.
Burying all the mesmerizing Kandy memories in the deepest point of the mind, the next day starts with proceeding towards Kitulgala waving to an adventurous day. This is a well-known eco-tourism paradise in Sri Lanka particularly for those who love adventures. On the way to Kitulgala, you will be visiting the Royal Botanical Garden in Peradeniya known as the best botanical garden in Asia. Then, upon arriving at Kitulgala, the first and foremost experience you will be getting is the white water rafting in the Kelani river. A rafting journey in these enchanted surroundings will, for sure, give you unforgettable experiences with some life-ending moments as well. All the water-related activities are for those over the age of 16 with all the possible safety measures with null risk. Afterward, you will get the chance to trek to a natural rock pool, where you will get the opportunity to experience sliding down an inclined 05-meter waterfall with safety gear into the rock pool (Please note that all these activities are included in the package). Overnight stay would be in a nature-friendly simple resort with deluxe facilities including river view, air-conditioned and clean room.
The sixth day of this tour is obviously an exciting day for adventure lovers since it consists of a hike to one of the most sacred places on the island, Adam’s Peak (Note that this activity depends on the weather). This is the most recognized second highest mountain in the country which gives you the feeling of trekking up to the top of the world with a scenic view that never makes a traveler feel tired. And the interesting fact is, this is a noteworthy landmark that is important for all religions in Sri Lanka. However, this gets the shape of a pyramid that rises to 2,243m (7,359ft). Ascending 5000 stone steps, obviously, a hard journey starts at night in order to get rid of the fatigue and with the aim of reaching the top in time to witness a stunning view of sunrise. Climbing is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that gives unforgettable memories throughout. So, though this is a tiresome journey, it is worth having it. Overnight stay will be in a small hotel close to Adam’s Peak with average facilities.
The seventh day of this tour will take you away from the historic and ancient side of the island and place you in a totally opposing environment. Through this journey, you can witness the benefits we got from the colonization era in the past. Besides, this will take you more into the country and towards the well-known tea region of the country, Nuwara-Eliya. When you enter this city, you will feel another world, which resembles less Sri Lanka but more abroad. In fact, generally, this city is popular as “Little London” due to the relaxing climate, city planning, and architecture. This is a retaining city from the British period which still has reminiscent of the period such as the Queen's Cottage, the General's House, the Grand Hotel, the Hill Club, and the Town Post Office. While driving through the cold and misty hills that host green-filled tea plantations you will get the opportunity to visit a tea factory en-route. This will give you the essence of the art of traditional Ceylon tea making which is unique to the island. Make sure you taste a perfectly blended fresh cup of Ceylon tea before leaving the factory areas. The afternoon is to have a walkthrough of Nuwara Eliya city center and the market where you can find fresh vegetables and fruit.  Then you will be headed to a hotel mostly around the lake for an overnight stay.
Now the trip becomes more interesting with a whole new experience. The day starts with a stupefying train journey in the best rail routes in Sri Lanka, from Nanu-Oya station to Ella. It is in fact the most known picturesque hill country train journey in the world(The tickets will be arranged at the station according to your preference, and availability). Upon arriving at Ella, you will have a full day around the village which is the most popular hill country village with eco-friendly nature. This one-day tour consists of visits to major tourist destinations around this mountain town along with hiking and trekking as well. Evening time is to chill in the dozens of restaurants and pubs in the center of the village with night walks. This is a stunning tour that no one should miss out on which ends at mount view hotel in Ella for the overnight stay.
The Ella journey ends with an early morning trekking up to Ella rock to capture the hill country sunrise and a visit to Ravana falls en route. Then begins the next schedule for the day, which is all about ecosystems and biodiversity with a safari journey to a well-known land of wildlife, called Udawalawe National Park on the island. So, if you are interested in rumbling through the forest areas to witness wild elephants and many more wild animals, this is your day! The afternoon is for the safari journey, which is one of the best times of the day to explore animals since they come out of their habitats towards the evening. This will be a great opportunity for you to learn about the lifestyles of the animals who wander freely around their territories. Then the day ends at a lodge in Udawalawe amidst the slight sounds of different animals.
After having a tiresome yet fascinating journey around the country for several days, this day calls for leisure time for you to revise all the memories of the whole journey. So, you will be heading to one of the most charming beaches of the island, Mirissa! Sitting on the golden sands of the Mirissa beach, you can bring back all the beauty you witness among the mountains, waterfalls, and tea plantations throughout. Besides, this beach gives you the best views of the rambling sea with white sands surrounded by coconut palms on the edges of the territory. Since this looks like a hideout, this is the ideal place for you to have a relaxing day with some water sports as well. In fact, you can opt to enjoy jet ski, banana & tube boating, diving, snorkeling, surfing, fishing & deep-sea fishing. Overnight stay will be at a sea view hotel in Mirissa.
The day before the departure is there to expose you more to the sea world along with the connected monuments around the island. Early morning starts with whale watching (Note that whale watching depends on the seasons) with a never-ending boat ride. Then you would be heading to Galle while stopping at Matara to capture the most famous stilt fisherman en route. Upon arriving at Galle, the sights there will bring you back to the beneficial architectural add ons we perceived from the colonization of Dutch and British. So, you have the opportunity to take part in the city exploration with a walk through the Galle Fort which ends with a visit to the historical lighthouse standing proudly at the edge. The afternoon is to discover the beautiful aquatic creatures, turtles in hatcheries to explore their diversified lifestyle and to witness the process of conversion of rare sea creatures. Towards the end of the day, you can have an evening walk at the beach near the hotel in order to recollect all the memories in order. The last overnight stay will be at a beach hotel which gives a worth staying to you with flowing memories.
